The Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management offers two distinct Masters of Science degrees. The Master of Science in Hospitality Management is offered as a blended resident/online program or as a 100% online option. The Master of Science in International Sustainable Tourism is a unique joint degree with CATIE (The Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center) located in Turrialba, Costa Rica. This program allows the student to spend the first half of the degree at UNT and the last half of the degree at CATIE.

  • The 36 credit-hour Master of Science degree in Hospitality Management offers an integrated program of study focusing on the management of products, services, and experiences in a consumer-driven global market. The Ph.D. in Learning Technologies is available for residential study for students who can attend the UNT campus and via an online distance-delivered format for those who, due to distance or reason, cannot attend the UNT campus.

The doctorate in Learning Technologies focuses on defining, understanding, and expanding the synergy of technology and learning/instructional systems theory. The core of the Ph.D. program is the application of technologies within the learning process. Towards this end, a successful doctoral candidate demonstrates proficiency in skills and knowledge that allows the individual, upon graduation, to become a contributing scholar/practitioner in the field. Graduates work as faculty, instructors, teachers, instructional designers, directors of distance education, technology coordinators, trainers, and other professionals in the instructional, educational, and learning technology fields both in educational and corporate settings. The program has a focus on academic research and writing, which has resulted in a majority of graduating doctoral students holding positions at universities.

  • Synthesize Knowledge: The graduate will read and synthesize the literature related to his/her specific discipline, describe fundamental theories of human learning and the role of technology, and apply knowledge of human learning and technology to the solution of practical problems in his/her discipline.

New Cohorts start each semester, applications are due no later than the first of April each year.

The PhD in Learning Technologies focuses on understanding and expanding the synergy of technology and learning/instructional systems theory. Graduates of the program are prepared to accept appointments at universities and organizations whose mission is the creation, instruction, or testing of innovative applications of instructional and educational technology in academic and corporate settings. Graduates work as faculty, teachers, instructional designers, directors of distance education, technology coordinators, trainers, and other positions in the instructional, educational, and learning technology fields.

Toward this end, a successful doctoral candidate will demonstrate proficiency in both process and content areas. Process proficiency refers to the skills and knowledge that graduates use in the course of being contributing scholars/practitioners; whereas, content areas proficiency is the deep domain specific knowledge and skills which form the foundation of our discipline. These activities are supported through mentoring and student-centered study and research.

The distance delivered PhD in Learning Technologies is a blended offering with students taking online courses throughout the year and attending a yearly face-to-face meeting during the summer. This program is available to students living outside the North Texas area or those students unable to attend the residency offering. Students within driving distance of UNT should investigate the residency program.

  • In this program, you will learn the nature of research, evaluation and analysis, and gain an understanding of how to create, administer and assess individuals and programs. You will learn the nature of statistics both descriptive and inferential, as well as how to determine whether the results of a research initiative are significant or due to other factors. This program prepares you to work with public or private organizations, to assist in the development of research and other types of grant proposals, and to focus on the evaluation of proposals. You will be able to provide information to policyholders who make decisions about whether to commit funds to different efforts based on an empirical statistical analysis. UNT offers certification as an educational diagnostician through an online venue. The educational diagnostician certificate may be earned concurrently with a master of special education or as a certification-only option if the candidate already has a master's degree. The M.Ed. in Special Education program consists of 33 hours all of which are available online. Some Saturday seminars are required of the two practicum courses. Though you can begin coursework any semester, begin taking courses in the summer, and the coursework can be completed in 15 months: Begin your journey one summer and graduate the next summer!

  • This concentration is designed for students who want to be employed as an Educational Diagnostician or for teachers who are interested in assessment issues in the classroom. You will learn to assess and diagnose the special learning needs of students using a variety of standardized assessments and curriculum based assessments as well as provide consultation and prevention and intervention strategies within an educational setting. Upon completion of the degree requirements, students will be certified to administer standardized tests including the WISC-IV, Standford-Binet V, KABC, WJ-ACH, WIAT-III and various other individual measurements.
  • Students seeking this degree have good organization skills; an ability to relate well with parents, administrators, teachers and students of all ages; ability to resolve conflicts; and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. With this degree, you can collaborate with a team of professionals from several different backgrounds and use your expertise to make the best educational decisions for placing students with special learning needs. Many students work in independent school districts as educational diagnosticians.
