The Department of Technical Communication and the Tech Comm Community Outreach Research Lab have launched UNT’s newest microcredential: Workplace Writing Essentials. Designed for adult professionals looking to hone their written communication skills, this course emphasizes building goodwill in communication and audience analysis so learners can contribute to organizational success.

Those who complete Workplace Writing Essentials will gain the tools and techniques necessary to translate complex ideas and insights into clear, concise, and compelling written content. This online, asynchronous course takes approximately 30 hours to complete. It offers writing instruction from a practical perspective and introduces strategies that can be immediately applied through relevant and organic writing situations.

Designed by UNT’s award-winning faculty, Workplace Writing Essentials empowers early-career professionals to communicate effectively, efficiently, and persuasively through their written work. This course enhances the learner’s ability to produce error-free documents, craft respectful and empathetic messages, and tailor messages to specific audiences. Through the upskilling of written communication, course participants will be able to better express their expertise in the workplace.

This microcredential is delivered in an online asynchronous format, allowing course participants to engage with the content at their own pace. Course content is comprised of engaging and accessible multimedia learning materials, including short videos and embedded readings. An understanding of course concepts is verified through autograded and self-reflection exercises. Each lesson ends with a capstone assignment on which a UNT faculty member will provide personalized feedback. These unique, interactive assignments ensure learners develop and apply effective written communication skills. Learners are awarded a digital badge upon completion.
