Achieve Your Online Graduate Academic Certificate in Teaching Technical Writing

Our Teaching Technical Writing GAC is designed for college teachers—or people interested in higher education teaching—who want a boost to their career. Because the number of college teaching jobs in technical writing continues to increase while those in teaching language and literature continue to shrink, our GAC offers an extra credential that will make you more competitive for college teaching positions. Our GAC is specifically tailored for people who already have a Master’s degree or are currently enrolled in a Master’s program.

Benefits and Advantages of our Certificate

  • The GAC can be completed quickly—in as little as 7 months!
  • Our course rotation allows you to take classes in any fall, spring or summer term.
  • All courses are taught by world-class faculty with formal education and workplace experience in technical communication.
  • The coursework provides training that will make you highly qualified to teach ENG 2311: Technical and Business Writing (or the equivalent introductory course in colleges outside of Texas).
  • The program has no minimum GPA or GRE prerequisites.
  • GAC coursework can be applied toward our Master of Arts in Professional and Technical Communication.

Worried that your busy lifestyle will get in the way of making your career goals a reality?

Our online program is the solution.

  • People who do not want to earn another Master’s degree.
  • Those who have not yet succeeded in landing a teaching position with their degrees in composition and rhetoric, literature, creative writing, or cultural studies.

How does it work?

  • The 12-hour Teaching Technical Writing GAC requires four 8-week courses: Editing Technical Documents (TECM 5195), Digital Content Strategies (TECM 5200), Designing Technical Documents (TECM 5280), and Studies in the Teaching of Technical Communication (TECM 5550).
  • The online course offerings rotate throughout Fall, Summer, and Spring terms. In other words, two 8-week courses are offered each term on a rotating schedule. You can complete the certificate in as little as 7 months if you take courses over the summer.
