The online Curriculum and Instruction program consists of a minum of 30 hours, with 12 hours in specific required courses.

NOTE: Background courses may be required if your undergraduate degree did not prepare you for current master level courses. Background courses are assessed on an as-needed basis after evaluation of undergraduate transcripts.

Academic resource areas, 12 hours

An additional 12 hours are selected by the candidate from one of the resource areas with the approval of the departmental advisor and program coordinator.

Electives, 6 hours

In addition, 6 hours of electives are selected from courses in curriculum and instruction, early childhood studies, literacy, bilingual education, or ESL, but students whose resource areas are in these fields may choose electives from other programs.

Option to add the School Principal Certification

Certified teachers can add the Principal Certification to the master’s degree if these requirements are met: teaching in a Texas accredited Pk-12 school for at least two years, completing a Principal Certification Plan, passing the Principal Certification TExES exam, and passing the three courses listed below in addition to these four courses from the Master’s degree:  1) EDLE 5330 for EDCI 5360; 2) EDLE 5620 for EDBE 5620; 3) EDLE 5390 elective course; 4) EDLE 5680 for EDCI 5320.
